Designing the Future: Crafting Hive Network’s Visual Identity and User Experience
A Case Study in Decentralized Innovation
Overview
In this case study, we explore my recent collaboration with decentralized AI startup Hive Network.
Hive stands as a pioneering decentralized network of secure AI agents, aiming to revolutionize the way Web3/Web2 builders interact with AI. Their vision is to streamline the creation of trustless and verifiable AI agents, enhancing user experience and fostering mass adoption of crypto technologies through transparency, security, and privacy for users worldwide.
Gearing up for their alpha launch at ETHDenver, Hive presented me with a challenging one-week deadline. My mission was twofold: to craft an intuitive and visually striking proof of concept UI and to conceptualize and design a logo that would effectively translate their brand and product vision.

Process and Methodology
My design process was anchored in an “early and often” feedback and iteration cycle. Through collaborative workshops and design reviews, we embraced an iterative approach, enabling continuous refinement and enhancement. Most communication was asynchronous, primarily utilizing Discord, supplemented by synchronous interactions through Google Meet when needed.
Discovery
To kickstart the project, I conducted a comprehensive exploration that included a competitive review, a brand questionnaire, and a discovery workshop with the primary stakeholder — Hive’s founder. This initial stage played a critical role in shaping our visual language and identifying areas for differentiation. Our aim was to create a design that exudes excitement, boldness, and innovation, using vibrant colours like yellow, orange, silver, and black. By integrating elements such as glassmorphism, gradients, and 3D graphics, our goal was to develop a user interface that feels modern, polished and familiar for users in the crypto ecosystem.
Logo Design
In designing the logo for Hive, I began by analyzing insights from our discovery phase and fine-tuning the colour palette. In a collaborative brainstorming session with Hive’s founder, we explored various design concepts aimed at reflecting Hive’s vision. We focused on elements symbolizing the interconnected nature of AI agents within the Hive network, alongside reinforcing the hive theme. This involved incorporating hexagonal shapes reminiscent of honeycomb cells, evoking a sense of network or interconnected nodes complemented by subtle nods to an abstract bee motif. Following several rounds of feedback and refinement, I finalized a logo that captured Hive’s identity.
UI Design
With the logo and brand colours in place, I shifted my focus to crafting a proof of concept UI for Hive’s platform. The primary structure was based on wireframes mocked up by the technical founder, which I then translated and refined into user-centred and high-fidelity designs prioritizing simplicity, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. The key screens created were an agents hub dashboard, agent messaging, create new agents, and a unique “swarming” collaborative feature, where Agents can be grouped to create complex workflows.. Dark mode was implemented giving the interface a sleek and contemporary look.
Outcome and Impact
Despite a demanding deadline, I successfully delivered a visually striking and user-centric proof of concept UI and logo for Hive within just five working days. This project underscores the pivotal role of design in transforming complex technological concepts into engaging and intuitive solutions. With our design contributions, Hive was well-positioned to showcase their alpha release to end-users and investors, at ETHDenver setting the stage for future funding opportunities and growth.
Conclusion
As decentralized platforms redefine technology, design will play a crucial role in shaping their story. My collaboration with Hive Network exemplifies design’s power in bringing innovative ideas to life, and translating them into intuitive, engaging experiences. Looking forward, I’m committed to advancing intuitive and impactful design in frontier technologies, ensuring widespread adoption and accessibility for everyone.
